On-Farm Plastic Recycling - Do you participate?

19 August 2013

A great article on on-farm plastic recycling in the Rural Contractor magazine, discussing findings by Plasback.

Rural News also had an article re Plasback.

Agrecovery run a great service also, of which I have had more to do with in the past. Rural recycling rates hit record high

Very positive to see that there is a year on year lift in the volume of plastic being recycled by our industry.

Do you think there is enough participation? The estimate from Chris Hartshorne, Plasback that there is some 4,000 T's of plastic each year to be recycled and we are currently sitting at 870 T's for July 2012 - July 2013.

What are your thoughts on the state of on-farm plastic recycling?

Have been involved in the Ag industry for many years on all sidesof the fence, and coming up to retirement age so I am no spring chicken. I am are very aware of some of the past ways of getting rid of empty chemical containers.
Recyling of plastic is the only way to go, lets not mess up the enviroment for the generations ahead.

BASF also bringing out chemical in new containers the  "ECO PACK " that have 25% less plastic, even better, less to get rid of.

Any plastic recycling is a good thing. It's interesting to see that plasback accept a wider range of plastics for recycling than any local council recycling system. Kids in school are continually being told that only PET and PE-HD (1 & 2) plastics are recycled in NZ, and that is all we are allowed to put out in the household recycling bin. How much of my plastic waste from the house can go to plasback? Maybe whole communities should look into this.
