Getting Amongst Canterbury Cereal Crops

23 August 2013

Grant Hagerty, Wade Paterson and I (Gavin Borthwick) walked our "X"traordinary chemistry plot trials today. It was very evident not just from the trial plots but also from the surrounding paddocks that the scald pressure has eased right off and leaf rust and to an extent net blotch has begun to pressure the crops.

This will be due to the warm dry weather we've experienced lately.

However there is considerable scald sitting in the bottom of the crops and a rain event would kick the scald infections off again. it is vital we don't drop our guard on disease control.

The positive to this situation is that it allows for growers to use Opus Ultimate to clean things up at a very affordable price compared to other chemistry in the market whilst leaf rust, not scald, is the issue.

Overall crops seem to be some 2 to 3 weeks ahead and have established well and are coming out of the winter well set up.
