General Instructions

General Information

STORM SECURE can be used both indoors and outdoors. Rats and mice that are resistant to warfarin are controlled and no pre-baiting is required. A lethal dose is readily consumed in a single feed but death may not occur for up to seven days afterwards. STORM SECURE contains Bitrex* to help prevent accidental human consumption.

Exposure (when used on stocked land): By law, all practicable measures must be taken to minimise all access to baits by livestock, pets and other non target animals.

Carcasses: By law, access by livestock, pets and other non target animals must be prevented by collecting and burying or burning poisoned carcasses where practical, or necessary.

In all instances when using this product, appropriate best practice guidelines must be followed, where these exist.

Failure to comply with these label directions is an offence under the ACVM Act.

Direction for Use

Baits must only be placed in areas frequented by the target pests. Do NOT place baits in areas accessible to children, pets, domestic animals and non-target wildlife. Do NOT place baits in areas liable to flooding. Alternative food sources should be removed or reduced as much as possible.

Rats: Select suitable bait locations, such as in active rat holes, along runs and under rubbish. Try to establish a barrier of bait locations between living and feeding areas. Bait locations may be as close as 5 metres apart in heavy infestations. Attach 3 STORM SECURE blocks at each bait location on wire or nails* or inside rat bait stations. Also place 1 bait block in each rat hole. Inspect the bait locations after 3 days and select new locations where there has been no take. Inspect again 4 days later and replace any blocks that have been eaten. Place a fresh block in each active rat hole. Repeat the inspection of all bait locations at 7 day intervals; placing fresh blocks on each occasion only when blocks have been eaten. Normally only 3 to 4 baiting rounds (pulses) are required.

Mice: Mice have very limited home ranges and do not need to drink. They are more difficult to control than rats because their feeding patterns are more erratic. Selection of bait locations is therefore even more important than for rats. Attach single STORM SECURE blocks on wire or nails*, or inside mouse bait stations, up to 2 metres apart in areas where activity is obvious, particularly where droppings are seen. In domestic premises, secure single blocks on wire or nails, or inside mouse bait stations, in sheltered positions, inaccessible to children and pets, where mice are active such as under flooring, inside ceiling cavities, along pipe runs and conduits and behind skirting boards, furniture and appliances. Inspect bait locations and replace blocks in the same sequence as for rats.

* Do not use a wire, nail or screw thickness greater than 2.5 mm.

* With the bait extraction process, at times it may seem like the hole is not present for wire / nail attachment, however, by gently pushing the wire / nail, the hole will open up. See below:

Do NOT allow movement of the baits outside the bait location to occur. Do NOT place baits in areas liable to flooding. Burn or bury all rodent bodies and uneaten bait.

First Aid

The active ingredient flocoumafen is an indirect blood anticoagulant. Ingestion of a relatively large quantity of bait would be required before a toxic effect is expected. In general, an increased tendency to bleed could indicate poisoning. If you feel unwell, seek medical advice. IF SWALLOWED: Do NOT induce vomiting. In case of ingestion or an increased tendency to bleed, contact the National Poisons Centre 0800 POISONS (0800 764 766) or a doctor immediately. Show the product label to the doctor. IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water. Note for Physicians Only: Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) is antidotal. In cases of suspected poisoning, determine prothrombin time not less than 18 hours after consumption. If elevated, administer Vitamin K1 in divided doses, 40 mg/day for adults, 20 mg/day for children. Continue until prothrombin time normalises. Treatment may be required daily for several weeks. Withdraw antidote with care and monitor prothrombin times for two weeks, and resume treatment if elevation occurs in that time. Note: Vitamin K3 is not effective.

Domestic Animal Poisoning

In cases of accidental poisoning by STORM SECURE consult a veterinarian who will advise of suitable Vitamin K1 antidote therapy.

Storage
